Temperature outside begins to rise, many people seek the cool comfort of indoor air conditioning. To some people an air conditioner is purely a luxury but to others it's simply a necessity. This comparison will discuss the important issues that are relevant when you are considering getting an portable air conditioner in your home.

Window units
A window air conditioner unit is a complete air conditioner that is simply mounted in the opening of your window. The units are cleverly made small enough to fit into a standard window frame. You close the window down on the unit, plug the unit in and turn it on. Unlike the portable air conditioner, the condensed water that all air conditioners produce is easy to get rid of. Water simply drip off the unit directly to the outside.

Portable air conditioners
Portable air conditioner is a console unit that can be moved from room to room and other locations. However, they cost a bit more than window units and use more energy, but still, portable units are advantageous to people who just need local cooling or need to move the unit from time to time. Portable air conditioners are very effective in removing odors such as smoke, cooking and other undesirable indoor pollutants. Due to the fact that the portable air conditioner takes air from the room and blows it out of the room (for instance through a window) there will be an air drag from outside and adjecant rooms. This means that for example smoke in the room will not go to the other rooms but will actually get blown out the window as the room is gradually cooled. Portable air conditioners are ideal for cooling down small rooms such a small livingroom or a bedroom. Note that the coling capabilities are less than for a central air conditioner, so big rooms and extremely hot rooms or sun room cannot be cooled effectively by a portable one. In that case a central air conditioner is needed. Portable air conditioners is a very good option to provide supplemental cooling. For instance in areas of a home or office that are served by a central system but still need cooling. In rooms with a high local heat dissipation the portable air conditioner is more efficient than a central air conditioner. This can be places with heat generating equipment such as computer server room, photo copiers, computers, kitchens, laboratories etc. In such cases the exhausting of room air actually helps rather than hindering the cooling process.

Special Note for Customers
We strongly recommend to go with a portable air conditioner that is rated at cooling a larger room area than the size of your room, especially when there is a heat source. The portable air conditioner will not work in a Sunroom and Garage and in rooms where heat source is absorbed quicker than the cooling capacity that the portable air conditioner can produce. We would recommend our customer to give the manufacture a call before purchasing. All portable air conditioner requires exhaust hose and window kit.
